Old Business
Long Range Plan
The committee met last week but Judy did not receive notification until after the meeting.
A change was made to Judy’s draft under “SAFETY ON EXISTING ROADS” Line 3 which
now reads “Select and mark safe Route 6 crossings on a bike trail map.” Judy will
forward her comments and recommendation to Ken Ainsworth who runs the Long Range
Planning Advisory Group.
Signage Bob Donahoe stated that our sign proposal for the installation of fourteen (14)
signs was approved at the June 4th BOS meeting. The signs were ordered and installed last
week. Bob also mentioned that he will work on improving the signage at the Tunnel. He
anticipates assistance from the Police Department and possibly the Town Administrator.
Additionally, signs removed from the CCRT at Brackett and Locust Roads, prior to the
CCRT rehabilitation, will be put back this month at those locations. A similar sign at
Samoset Road was destroyed during the storm on December 9, 2006.
Pan Mass Challenge (PMC): We estimate that there will be 10-11 volunteers from
EBC (Parmelee’s, Donahoe’s, Ouellette’s, Dobek’s, + Kathy and friend(s). Bob mentioned
that he will request to the PMC that he pick up the necessary ID’s and shirts from the
Wellfleet Middle School early on August 3rd and distribute them. Judy will work with
Allan Eyden to identify the Eastham volunteers and their respective locations and the need
to man LeCount Hollow carefully. Bob will work with the Police Department to insure
that the affected businesses on Route 6 are aware of the PMC on August 3rd. Don
suggested that a list of our cell phones be made and Bob will take care of that for
distribution on August 3rd.
PMC Signage: Bob stood in for Kathy and referenced her handout. Bob and Carol will
post at least 25 color copies of these along Route 6 businesses on Tuesday, July 29th
which is 5 days before the event. Members suggest that he have 100 copies of the handout
made at Town Hall in B&W and leave them in selected businesses (real estate) for
distribution to people.
PMC Summary: A summary of actions to be taken in July:
· Judy – obtain list of Eastham volunteers and their stations
· Judy – insure LeCount Hollow is carefully manned by the PMC
· Judy – look into possible training by PMC to volunteers prior to Aug 3rd
· Bob/Carol – post & distribute copies of Kathy’s map/handout on July 29th
· Bob – obtain and publish list of volunteer cell phones
· Bob – look into & implement, if approved, pickup of ID’s & shirts on August 3rd.
Bikes for Foreign Workers: Judy referenced John Fallender’s June 12th email to her
discussing providing bicycles to our foreign workers and counter some unsafe bikes sold
them by sellers in Brewster. The Orleans Bikeways Committee Such a project would involve:
· Acquiring used bikes (i.e. Recycle Center, DPW, Police Department, individuals)
· Fixing and checking bikes to insure they conform to safety standards
· Providing parts and night lighting for the bikes
· Insure that members avoid liability
· Acquire helmets (Police & Fire Depts.)
· Safety programs for foreign workers via their employers
The group felt that we can do nothing about this until next year. John will be invited to our
October meeting to discuss Mass Bike and this issue.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 AM. The next meeting will be on August 6th at 8:15 AM
